I was invited to give a talk at the Institute of Geography at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, and it was a pleasure to discuss emerging coast-reef relations in Mexico. My talk focused on the ambivalent role tourism plays in the Anthropocene, namely that it contributes to environmental damage on the one hand, but also enables coastal protection along the Riviera Maya on the other.
