The archipelago of Cabo Verde is located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the West African coast. My research on Sargassum brought me to the islands of Santo Antão and Sao Vicente in February and March 2023. I was grateful for the invitation by the Mindelo Ocean Science Center to present and discuss my work on Sargassum in the Caribbean, as the algae has recently begun washing up on several beaches and stretches of coast in Cabo Verde. Fieldwork on the islands has once more shown that while Sargassum has become a concern for many countries on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, it is yet something different in each place – at least to a certain degree.
