Coral reefs are complex, important, and sensitive ecosystems. They are increasingly in trouble; their destruction can be observed worldwide – including in the Mexican Caribbean. In my virtual lecture at the 14th International Coral Reef Symposium in Bremen, I shed light on the emergence of new coast-reef relations from a multi-species perspective and highlight reefs’ multiple meanings in the Anthropocene.
